The history of Open Joint Stock Company VNIINEFTEMASH dates back to Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR as of 13.08. 1946 № 1790 and Regulation of the Council of Ministers of the USSR as of 15/02/1947 №2349 - P through which it was allowed to the Ministry of Petroleum Industry of the Eastern Regions of the USSR to establish the State Research and Development Institute for Designing of Petroleum Machinery Manufacturing industry of the Eastern Regions "Giproneftemashvostok".
By the Resolution of the Board of State Scientific and Technical Committee of the USSR under the Council of Ministers as of 5th of February 1971 the former GIPRONEFTEMASH (State Institute for Designing Petroleum Machinery Manufacturing Industry) with its affiliates in the cities of Ufa and Tyumen' was re¬organized into the All-Union Scientific-Research & Design Engineering Institute of Petroleum Machinery Manufacturing Industry - VNIINEFTEMASH (in abbreviated form) of Ministry of Chemical and Petroleum Machinery Manufacturing of the USSR and assigned as a head organization:
- in the field of development of drilling, oil-field and geology-prospecting equipment and tools;
- in the field of development of petroleum refining and petrochemical equipment.
On the 24th of February, 1988 a Scientific and Production Association named VNIINEFTEMASH was founded by the Resolution of the USSR Minister for Chemical Machine Building Industry which incorporated the already above mentioned VNIINEFTEMASH plus 9 machine-building enterprises.
ОАО VNIINEFTEMASH was established in the course of privatization of the All-Union Scientific-Research & Design Engineering Institute of Petroleum Machinery Manufacturing Industry VNIINEFTEMASH
Basic directions of its activity throughout its entire history is an active contribution to the development of the fuel and energy complex of the country, development of the new progressive equipment for operating efficiency enhancement of the enterprises of the fuel and energy complex, consumer needs satisfaction under mastering of innovative technologies of oil and gas field operation and both crude petroleum refining as well as gas conversion process.
JSC VNIINEFTEMASH has proved its predestination as that of a leading Russian organization in the field of petroleum machinery manufacturing. As a matter of fact it was essentially the start of structural reorganization of VNIINEFTEMASH operating and mastering of new kind of activities under the market conditions. Under the circumstances the determinative factor of that was absolute mastery in new and modernized equipment developed by VNIINEFTEMASH and for the first place at conversion enterprises.
VNIINEFTEMASH established new level of relationships with its customers and manufacturing plants. VNIINEFTEMASH concluded and fulfilled package contracts development and supply of oil-refining equipment with Moskovskiy (Moscow), Ryazanskiy (Ryazan') and Tuapsinskiy (Tuapse) Petroleum Processing Plants.
Based on the contracts with foreign firms VNIINEFTEMASH develops the technical documentation for the equipment in compliance with the customers' requirements, places orders for its manufacturing at Russian plants and provides carries out designer's technical supervision in the process of manufacturing. The documentation corresponds to Western standards (ASME, API, DIN and others).
Among customers of VNIINEFTEMASH are such reputed firms as "Toyo Engineering Corporation", "Chiodo" (Japan), Salzgitter (Germany), «Technip» France, "Bechtel Corporation" (USA) and others. The equipment manufactured at orders of those firms is supplied not only to Russian enterprises, but also to the ones of the third countries.
VNIINEFTEMASH widens its activities in the adjacent areas. It primarily concerns such fields as expertise, consulting and engineering. The system of industrial safety evaluation, technical diagnosis and risk assessment has been established and operates successfully, the system of feasibility, environmental impact and due legal assessment, connected with development and operating the equipment is being developed.
